Common questions

How does it work? Every day, watch a short story scene, answer questions about it, then retell it out loud. Add listening time with the suggested videos. Ninety days of that builds real understanding.

The voice sounds robotic. Phones come with basic voices. Apple's natural Premium and Enhanced voices are free but need a download: open Settings, Accessibility, Spoken Content (Read & Speak on newer iPhones), Voices, pick your language, and download a voice marked Premium or Enhanced. Ruta 90 picks it up automatically. In the app, More, Settings, Show me how walks you through it.

The voice is quiet or silent. Turn up the volume. Pick a voice in More, Settings. On iPhone, you can download free Premium voices in Settings, Accessibility, Spoken Content, Voices.

The microphone doesn't hear me. Allow microphone and speech recognition for Ruta 90 in Settings, then try again in a quiet spot.

How do I move to a new phone? Join a family board and back up from the Scoreboard, then choose "restore from family backup" on the new phone. You can also tap Save next to your name and download a backup file.

How do I leave the world board? Open the Scoreboard and tap Leave.

Ruta 90 Pro

What's free? Unit 1 (days 1 to 10), review, speaking practice, the 60 second challenge and the boards. Pro opens the other 80 stories for $7.99 a month or $39.99 a year, with a 7 day free trial on the yearly plan.

How do I cancel? On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Ruta 90 Pro. Cancel at least 24 hours before it renews.

New phone? Open the Pro screen and tap Restore purchases.

Teachers and schools

Ruta 90 has a class version that costs less than buying it for every student, and family and class boards let students compete with each other. Email mail@outliermethod.org and we will set your class up.
